Breakfast of Champions

Tea again in the morning
I'd saved half a breakfast burrito from the night before. And I had an instant oats packet. Nice. Lil C had a samosa from the Indian the night before the night before. Not bad. Hoff had peanut butter and jelly and fig newtons.
We took our time and drove round to the southeast side of the park to see ouzel falls. We managed to time it for the heat of the day again, but the hike was very comfortable compared to the previous day. Only about 6 miles. All done fairly early in the afternoon, but then we found ourselves at the Stanley hotel again. We'd also popped in the previous day. Many of you will be familiar with the Stanley hotel even if you didn't realise it. It's where 'the Shining' was filmed. Quite a grand old thing. Of most interest to us though was that the 'steamers cafe' which was actually just a starbucks had free Internet with computers provided. So I got birthday wishes to my mother on the right day. We also planned out a few of the remaining days and got accoodation sorted. Took a while but had to be done. Even got ourselves in trouble with the coffee shop girl for hogging it.
Then hoff had the brainwave of a quick drive along the trail ridge drive. Cold, misty and eerily spectacular.

And we saw our first elks, who decided to cross the road ahead of us.

All that was left to do was dinner and an early night for an early start tomorrow. So we got the fire started and roaring away and cracked out the kfc bucket and subway footlongs we'd bought on the way down.

What a feast! And then hoff got to try out the marshmallow toasting stick he'd picked up 6hours previously (fearing there might not be any sticks in the acres of forest between where we were and home).

It worked. We also took a bottle red over for our lovely ranger. Unfortunately they were in and we didn't get to drink it ourselves. And so to bed (well tent mattress) with a warm feeling in our hearts an bellies full of fried chicken. Did I mention that we bumped into the coffee shop girl in the kfc. There didn't seem to be any grudges held.
