Up early for rafting. Getting a bit quicker at the up and out. Last night's camping done. Not affected by the wind and rain, except my clothes being wetter than when I put them out to dry, so we obviously did everything correctly. Despite hoff's reservations about the campsite (we were rather exposed on the top of a hill), the views are spectacular. We decided to get the fire going again just cos we could, and brewed cups of tea. Just as with dinner, Breakfast wa snacks that we were still trying to get through from our first safeway shop. 3 jars of peanut butter had always seemed a bit excessive to me, especially as I don't eat it, but I had to admire some of broken pedal and lil c's sandwich creations.

Rafting felt like a bit of a rest day to be honest. The water was a lot lower than it had been earlier in the season, and flowing at 750cfs compared to over 3000 a month or two ago. It was food being on the water though, floating down the arkansas river. Nice lunch on the bank, and few rapids in the afternoon. One class 4 and the rest class 3. Guide was impressed by our paddling, saying it was the fastest boat he'd ever been in. That might be why he was a bit perplexed when part of his tip was a half-used propane tank. Have to shout-out lil c catching broken pedal unaware with a little nudge to send him over the side. Of course we all ended up in the river at some point. Lil c's sunglasses decided to stay there. His crokie's were still round his neck though. Good job they did.

We decided to give the cottonwood natural hot springs a miss as we were on our way to Colorado springs, where of course they'd have hot springs (I'm sure you see where that one's going).

Fortunately(!) hoff was reading the guidebook as we drove to cs, an discovered that we were passing close-ish to a casino town. It's quit difficult to keep hoff out of a casino, so it was added to the itinerary. And what a nice surprise it was. An old mining town with only one mountain road in and out. A high street lined with small casino's in the original old victorian buildings. We spent a while there winning (hoff, Harrison) and losing (k-seb) money, eating free popcorn and drinking free root beer, and annoying the dealers and other punters by not knowing any of the casino etiquette. I don't think there's ever been so long between two roulette rolls as when I sat down at the table. We asked about hot springs at Colorado springs and were surprised to discover there aren't any.

After our last mexican meal of the trip (B.O.O.K) it was back on the road, and eventually on to the day's inn nr Colorado springs. We got in at 10. Plans to go out again shelved. K-seb and I shocked to realise that we'd actually consumed fewer units than the recommended maximum in the last week. And while on holiday! Hoff decided to sleep on the floor so he could count it as a camping night.
