Stuart Day 11

We decided to extend our stay in Port Townsend and have had just a great day in the sunshine. After a gentle start, we hired bikes and had a terrific ride through the forest. Our bike hire man insisted that we needed road bikes not hybrids, so I found myself on a racing bike for the first time in about 30 years. It was great, and much easier riding than my own bike back home. No, I'm not going to get a road bike.

After an excellent lunch in a cafe in the boatyard, which is full of highly-rated eating places, we headed for Fort Worden on the headland above the town. This is an old army fort which ahd massive gun emplacements in the late19/early20th centuries and enjoys wonderful views over Puget Sound.
We then sat on the terrace at Sirens as the sun set

before making our way to the open mic night at a local bar. Deer roam wild around this town, so we had an interesting encounter on the way back to the hotel
We love this town but I guess we're going to have to move out fairly soon!
Pity we're going to miss the dance at the weekend.
