Stuart - nearly there!

Since it was Thursday, we decided we'd go to Canada! Vancouver Island is a ferry ride away from Port Angeles and is home to Victoria, the provincial capital of British Columbia. So, we took the ferry as foot passengers; within 30 mins of stepping off the ferry, we were sitting in the gallery of the BC legislative assembly, watching question time. And very interesting it was too. In fact, we had a job tearing ourselves away, but we did and had a pleasant stroll around the city. We were put off the museum by the price of admission, so we opted to go to the Pacific Undersea Gardens. We couldn't find this venue, despite being sure that we were in the right place. When we asked, we were told that it had been towed out to sea two weeks ago and sunk! Apparently, it was on a boat. Anyway, we had a good lunch and then went back to the Legislative Assembly for a guided tour. The assembly is in a very fine building with many manifestations of BC's Britishness.
Our trip is now nearing its end, with an activity planned tomorrow and then into Seattle tomorrow evening for our flight home on Saturday. It's been great fun and thoroughly enjoyable. I'll write a final blog tomorrow but in the meantime I've been thinking about my likes and dislikes on this trip.

Likes

Santa Barbara and Port Townsend
The beautiful and contrasting coastline of the West Coast
Hassle-free driving
Coastal towns on the beach
Avoiding chain restaurants and chain motels apart from 3 nights in Quality Inns.
Jake Bugg on Steve's playlist
Magnificent seafood and fish
Dive bars full of locals, who are invariably friendly.
Sweet potato fries.

Dislikes

Fort Bragg and Portland, although Fort Bragg was memorable for the funny things that happened there.
Parking rules in San Francisco.
Batter and deep-fat frying.
Torrential rain (though we've been pretty lucky overall)

A very short list of dislikes!
