Stuart Day 10

U Drop Inn
Texola
Sign of the times!
R66 Museum
Oklahoma City Memorial
Buoyed by the news of Wolves' win over WBA, we set off in good heart from McLean. Headed along the I-40 to Shamrock, where we picked up the Old Road. The art-deco U Drop Inn was impressive and then it was into Oklahoma and the town of Texola right on the state line - another R66 ghost town. Then into Erick (73645), the birthplace of Roger Miller and Sheb Woolley, and a place that time seems to have forgotten. Two hardware shops along Main Street looked as though someone had locked the door in the 1960s and they'd never been opened since. Also, a couple of places where it seemed that the owners collected signs and just left them in their gardens. Clinton (73601) is home to the R66 Museum and this was a real treat. Given that Oklahoma seems to close on Sundays, we were surprised, and relieved, to find it open. Onto Oklahoma City (73131) via some interesting small towns and the Memorial to the 1995 bombing (couldn't believe it was that long ago). The memorial was both impressive and moving and visited by many people. We're now in a Sleep Inn north of the city and will be heading off to Tulsa in the morning. Yes, we're less than 24 hours away! We had an interesting incident this evening with a surprise unmanned  toll booth that took coins only (35c worth) and we had no change. How we got out of that one will have to wait for another day.
