Day 4 Ho

The start of our Route 66 adventure proper.  After 2 days being wonderfully hosted by Aneesha and Tom, and catching up with the good people of San Francisco, we had our car 'Nev' and our guide 'Tom Tom', and just an 8 hour drive between us and Barstow, our starting point on the old mother road.

Thanks to our lingering jetlag, the 8 hr drive got us in to Barstow for a 1 o'clock lunch, and then the realisation that there's not actually much else to do.  But there is an In'n'Out, many American's favourite burger chain, with all the things you'd hope for from an American burger joint.  Shiny surfaces, lots of neon, and secret menu items.  We risked making tits of ourselves and ordered our burgers 'animal style' cos we'd read it on the internet.  No one laughed at us.

And we went to a real-life ghost town.

We were wondering what mum had been up to. That was until Dad checked his email and saw the wine purchase confirmations on his account  All was clearly well  back at home.
