Stuart Day 16

The Chicago Bean
Cold and wet but still smiling!
Our last full day dawned wet and cold! A gentle start to the day after the rigours of the night before. We met up with an old 5-a-side friend of Steve's from San Fran for lunch and then Ryan took us for a run round downtown Chicago and what a lovely place it is. Stunning buildings against the backdrop of the lake. Then on to historic Wrigley Field, home to the Chicago Cubs, to see them play San Francisco Giants (that's baseball, folks). We thought the game would be postponed because of the weather but it went ahead. Great experience but it was now very wet and the temperature was in the 40s. Time for a Chicago deep pan pizza in a buzzing downtown restaurant and an early night! One more event - a water tour of the city - and it's off to the airport. What a trip it's been. We've seen a different side of America to the normal tourist spots, travelled over 3,500 miles across 9 states and had great fun and unforgettable experiences. I don't think I shall be able to assimilate it all until I have been back home for a few days. Thanks to Steve for being a great travelling companion and providing much laughter along the way, Val for her support and encouragement and Tom and Aneesha and Ryan and Carrie for their outstanding hospitality. It's been a blast!
