Stuart Day 5

Pueblo Ruins
The road to Sedona
Standing on a corner in Winslow Arizona - takin' it easy
Have you slept in a wigwam - more photos tomorrow!
R66 memorabilia
Another healthy option - and this is a starter
Today, we started with a quick look around the sights of Seligman; apparently, many of the old cars that help decorate the town were used as models for the Disney 'Cars' cartoon. We were soon back on the Interstate, as it has been largely built on top of the old R66. So we decided to take a couple of detours. First we headed north towards the Grand Canyon and toured the Wupatki State Park. Lovely views of the Painted Desert and interesting ruins of Pueblo Indian communities dating from the 12th century. Then we headed south back to Flagstaff and on to Sedona, billed as one of the 10 most scenic drives in the US. And wonderful it was! Back onto I-40 with a few detours to R66 landmarks, bizarre places such as Twin Arrows and Two Guns (not Dogs!). So, on to Holbrook via Winslow and our overnight accommodation in a concrete wigwam! Yes, it's true. R66 used to have many of these Wigwam Villages and we are in one of the only two surviving ones. As I write this, Steve is complaining about the lack of hot water, but what can you expect in a wigwam. It was certainly very quiet and pleasantly cool, and also had all the facilities you'd expect in a standard hotel room (except hot water!). I had some problems inserting photos in yesterday's post, so I've added some relevant ones here.

  1. Like the SS tee shirts. You must be items of curiosity to people in the remote parts. Good reading keep it up!
