Geordie Bikers
Russ's ribs - delicious!
Oklahoma Jazz Hall of Fame in Tulsa

Downstream
Yesterday was Oklahoma's hottest for the time of year for donkeys - it was searing. Thought we might have storms last night but today has dawned clear and sunny. A comfortable low 90s all day, but quite windy! We got on R66 staright away and had a most pleasant drive up to Tulsa. Rolling farmland, quite prosperous towns and R66 a regular road in normal use. Stopped for coffee at the Rock Cafe, constructed in 1939 from lumps of rock from the original road. Bumped into a couple of bikers from Sunderland who were riding west on brand new Triumph Thunderbirds and a large group of very noisy elderly Australians who were driving to Las Vegas in 20 cars to raise money for charity. They were even letting off thundercrackers outside the cafe. After a delicious BBQ sandwich at Russ's Ribs in Bristow (74010) , we cruised into Tulsa (74101). Nice city with lots of art deco buildings, very quiet and loads of parking - very unAmerican. More miles on R66 and we had an early dinner at Clantons, a family restaurant in Vinita (74301) (and a recommendation for an overnight stop). Into Kansas for a 15-mile loop, including Galena, the most depressed town we have seen. Then into Missouri and the recommended overnighter in Joplin - the Downstream Resort and Casino (64804). Steve started to get very excited. A lovely room and over an hour on the Blackjack table - and we both won! It was all so quick and bewildering that I was exhausted by the end of it!
