Stuart Day 6

Excellent evening in SF with Steve's old mates, followed by the welcome revelation that Raj had a bottle of Lagavulin. This morning, a trip down memory lane for Steve (and me) with brunch at Ella's, coffee at Swank (formerly the G-Bar) and a wander round California Street. Then, over the Golden Gate Bridge and the run north up Highway 1. Stunning coastal scenery again, with the road sweeping through redwood forests then clinging to the cliffs alongside the ocean. We stopped for coffee in a charming little town called Jenner and had a long chat with a lovely lady in the information office. An idyllic little community has been ripped apart by a dispute over whether a small bridge destroyed by flooding should be replaced. It transpired that this lady had lived in Hampstead for a couple of years.

We then moved on to Fort Ross, an early 19th C recreation of a Russian traders camp. A bunch of schoolkids were staying there, cooking on open fires and wearing appropriate costume. Each child had been given the identity of someone who lived there and would tell you who they were and waht their story was. Charming.
Internet probs so I'll complete this in the morning.
