Stuart Day 9

A very steady start to the day after quite a night in Yachats. After breakfast and some rain, we headed north up Highway 101, hugging the coast and passing through communities literally built on the beach. By now the sun was shining and the drive was glorious. We turned off the highway to take the Three Capes Loop. First stop was at Cape Kiwanda, which was magnificent.

Stunning view followed stunning view

On completion of the loop, we turned inland and completed the 70 odd miles to Portland through very attractive forests of pine and spruce and fast-flowing rivers. We drove round the centre of Portland to get our bearings and then out to the airport to the Quality Inn (our first chain hotel, and we've also eaten exclusively in independents). We will get the Metro into the city tomorrow and then continue northwards. We love Oregon, especially its drivers.
