Stuart Day 8

Awoke to a cold, wet and windy day. A drive to a local whale watching spot proved fruitless, so we headed north and finally hit the state line.
The coast was raw and rugged and we got soaked on a couple of hikes through the woods. However, we did meet a guy who was cycling to Seattle and I was surprised when, during our conversation, his cat emerged from his backpack!

As we got further north into Oregon, the landscape became more pastoral and gentle and the sun came out. Highway 101 runs along the coast and the views were spectacular.

Lunch in Bandon was fish and seafood of real quality and then we hit dune country. Sand dunes run for miles along the Oregon coast and we had a tour of the dunes. Interesting and enjoyable.

The coast road took us to Yachats (the 'c' is silent, apparently) where we found accomm at the delightful Ocean Grove Inn.We've treated ourselves to separate rooms and I'm writing this looking out over the Pacific to the sound of the waves rolling up the beach. We had our best meal of the trip last night followed, at Steve's insistence, by a visit to the local dive bar. Yachats definitely gets a big thumbs up, as does Oregon.
